[Based on Ep. 7 "The Gates of Avalon". After Merlin pulls Arthur out of the lake]
Merlin struggled as he dragged Arthur's unconscious body the last few feet out of the lake. The young prince’s clothes were waterlogged and the heavy armor made pulling him to safety even more difficult for the slender Merlin. Once on the mossy shore, he coughed violently for a moment. The effort of the rescue exhausted him, but his task was far from done.
“Arthur!” he shouted as he leaned closer to Arthur’s unresponsive face. He felt no breath or signs of life coming from the man. "No, no! Don't you dare die on me," Merlin pleaded. The prospect that he might have been too late to save Arthur was unthinkable.
Merlin pressed his mouth to Arthur's and breathed into it as hard as he could. "Come on, come on..." He was about to repeat when a drought of water shot out of Arthur's mouth and onto his face. Merlin straightened up as Arthur coughed and gasped for breath. He wiped his face and mumbled, "Typical."
Filled with relief as Arthur's breathing stabilized, though he remained unconscious, Merlin laid back next to the young man to catch his own breath. The taste of Arthur's mouth was still on his lips. Odd how that was all he could think about.
